"A friend of Lara's at the National Museum in Cairo had asked her to help find an ancient artifact. A small statuette of Het-Hert, better known in Eygpt as Hathor, goddess of the sun & sky. The museum did have their own people conducting the search, but they had disappeared and had'nt been heard from for several weeks.
Lara starts her adventure in a town on the north African coast, an area which at one time was controlled by the Roman empire. It was believed that somewhere nearbye was the site of an ancient Egyptian Sun Cult. But exactly where this was, Lara could not be certain. It was going to be tough to find her way to one small statue, and the fact that mercenaries and insurgents were roaming the area was only going to make her search tougher." (by Tony Tomb)
