Lara wondered how long the parchment had been tucked away in this book on Victorian fashion, dated 1860, from the British Library in London. It was a good place to hide it among 14 million books. Who is still interested in Victorian style these days? The hippie fashion of Carnaby Street in the sixties attracted more fans. But for the New Year's masked ball, she had decided to wear a crinoline. The models were each more tempting than the last. But she left them to examine the parchment. Unfolded, it measured 20 cm by 20 cm. Under the light of the green lampshade, it looked new despite the marks of time. She spotted the cartouche of Queen Isis, a mythical figure from Egypt born around 2450 BC. The hieroglyphics mentioned the location of a secret sanctuary in the Valley of the Kings. With a treasure at the end of it. But wasn't the adventure itself the first treasure? She stuffed it into her rucksack, closed the book, abandoned the crinolines, and headed for the exit. As she rode her Ducati 998 across Piccadilly Circus toward Heathrow, she decided it was time to break in the new vest she had bought at Harrods.
