I don’t know if I’ll ever return to posting and commenting on Tomb Raider forums for TRLE, NGLE, TEN, as I once did. My love for Lara has remained dormant during all this time, because I couldn't express it anyway. I haven’t written on any forum for years. I haven’t provided updates on the progress of my game, even though I owe it to the players who enjoyed the first two seasons of *HyperSquare*—those who are waiting to see how the story I was telling concludes, and, above all, how Lara manages to defeat the TechnoEgyptians' menace and save the Cosmos in the end.
Unfortunately, I am dealing with health issues: problems I never imagined could happen to me, or even that such conditions could exist. That was partly my own ignorance, of course, but also that of the doctors: for seven years, they misdiagnosed me: it was a systemic failure in the healthcare system that led to what I am suffering through now. Regardless of how rare or complex an illness and its diagnosis might be, a patient deserves to be heard. I wasn’t; no one believed me, not until the onset of my paralysis in April 2025.
I never wanted to share this. I had hoped to leave the story of the game I was telling open to interpretation, perhaps as a fond memory for those who enjoyed it. That is why I had decided to completely "disappear", and I might still decide to do so. Yet, deep down, I felt I owed you at least an explanation, however brief or lacking in detail. Season 3 of *HyperSquare* was nearly finished: at my own pace, it would have required "only" another two years of development.
I am currently in recovery; more than a year after my surgery, I am beginning to take steps again. I remain hopeful that there is room for truly remarkable improvement, even though the surgeon told me: "You will never walk again.". I would like to show him just how wrong he was about me in his professional capacity, as much as his colleagues were wrong throughout seven years of misdiagnoses.
HyperSquare is a project I intend to bring to completion, especially for the sake of its story and the plot twists leading up to the finale, twists I’ve managed to keep under wraps until now and still deserve to be told.
By next year, hopefully by April 2027, I will release a brand-new project, completely original and entirely separate from the worlds of Tomb Raider, Lara, videogames, or HyperSquare. I’ve been working on it since the first day I discovered the paralysis on my legs was setting in. It’s a project that was born and developed during my illness, yet it draws upon the experience, aspirations, knowledge, and innovations I’ve gathered over the last decade or two. It will be incredibly colorful, definitely pushing beyond current aesthetic norms and logic. So colorful, in fact, that you might find yourself wanting to go back and play my "Tomb Raider A" game just to give your eyes a rest!
Many of you, and plenty of other people around the world, will say that I’ve just totally fried my brain for releasing something like this
If this project proves successful, I plan to dedicate at least two or three years to finishing HyperSquare and re-releasing it as a complete game, polishing it and improving the FMVs, and eventually ironing out any bugs I could discover while playing through it myself. I honestly don’t recall how difficult it is, or whether it’s well-suited for today’s generation of players, who tend to demand "everything, right now, fast and easy, otherwise I’m quitting or using cheats". If necessary, I’ll adjust the difficulty downward. (As a side note: the project files for the first two seasons no longer exist; they were lost in a ransomware attack back in 2016 or 2017, just before the release of the second season of HS, which I miraculously managed to finish even without the original project files.)
For over nine years now, this has been the most difficult adventure I have ever experienced—especially considering the seven years I spent trying to get the doctors to believe me, knowing full well that if I had been listened to, none of this would have happened. But I am working toward a victory against everything adverse
I’ll share more updates on my new project a few weeks before its release, so stay tuned for a few months from now!
