A long forgotten story

The story I’m presenting to you this year has a rather long history. The first draft dates back to 2008, almost twenty years ago, and it was part of a collective project born on the Arts Cafè forum of Aspidetr.com. Overhill, a few other users, and I had the idea of writing a novel whose chapters would be one-shot stories in which the same scene was seen from the perspective of different characters.
I had conceived this story as an “interlude”, a sort of connector between broader narrative sections, while still framed within the main storyline. Unfortunately, the project never came to life. In 2022, around Christmas, I decided to collect my juvenilia in a short book intended for friends and relatives, with particular attention to the stories that in some way mentioned breakfast (I have never quite understood why, but many of my stories contain direct or indirect references to that meal!). The book, by the way, is called ColAzioni and is still available (in Italian) on all the main online stores, if you feel like reading it.
While preparing it, I retrieved this story from my archives. Since it does contain a reference to breakfast, I revised it a little until it reached roughly the form you are about to read. However, when the book was finally printed, I realized that I had not included it. A lapse of memory or a technical mistake? We will never know.
