Tomb Raider movie: Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider movie

After months in which actress Daisy Ridley was rumored to play the part, today the Hollywood Reporter broke the news: in the next Tomb Raider film directed by Norwegian Roar Uthaug, Lara Croft will be Swedish actress Alicia Vikander.

Alicia Vikander is the 2016 Oscar winner for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Gerda  Wegener in “The Danish Girl”; she also picked up two nominations at this year’s BAFTAs for both The Danish Girl and last year’s acclaimed sci-fi thriller Ex Machina.

Alicia Vikander began her career by appearing in a number of short films and television roles in her native Sweden; in 2012, she gained international attention for playing the key role of Kitty in the English-language film adaptation of “Anna Karenina” and “A Royal Affair”; in 2015 she played the role of half-human/half-witch Alice Deane in the fantasy film “Seventh Son”, and had the female leading role in the Guy Ritchie-directed action film “The man from U.N.C.L.E.”; she gained public recognition and critical acclaim for her starring role as AI Ava in Alex Graland’s directorial debut “Ex Machina”, for which she received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

L’hanno definita la nuova Ingrid Bergman, un po’ per via della comune provenienza e sicuramente per lo stile, lo sguardo luminoso e il comprovato talento; è stata anche scelta dal documentarista Stig Björkman (d’accordo con la figlia Isabella Rossellini) come voce narrante nel documentario “Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words” (Io sono Ingrid) realizzato per il centenario dalla nascita. 

 

Alicia Vikander è attualmente impegnata sul set tedesco del regista Wim Wenders che la ha voluta come protagonista del dramma sentimentale “Submergence”, dove la vedremo al fianco di James McAvoy. Rivedremo l’attrice presto al cinema con diversi titoli tra cui “La luce sugli oceani”, film dove ha conosciuto l’attuale compagno Michael Fassbender e “Jason Bourne”, action thriller che segna il ritorno di Matt Damon nei panni della spia creata da Robert Ludlum.
